Start with Boot camp, the first card on the Play tab: a guided battle against bots that shows you, a step at a time, how to move your army, build, train, take oil, research and attack. It takes a few minutes. You can play it again any time under Settings → Boot camp.

Accounts made with an email confirm it first: open the link we emailed you when you signed up, and Ranked and Team Ranked open up. No email? Tap Send again on the main menu, and check your spam folder. Accounts that sign in with Apple or Google don't need this.

Matches against other players open once you've finished boot camp, so nobody is thrown into a battle without knowing the basics. If you've played strategy games before, tap Skip boot camp under the mode cards.

On the sign-in screen, tap Forgot password? and type the email on your account: we'll email you a link to set a new one (it works for an hour). You can also ask for it on this page. Signed in with Apple or Google? Then there's no password: use that button again.

Open the Social tab in the main menu, type their callsign and tap Add. Once they accept, you'll see when they're online and can invite them.

Tap With friends on the Play tab and create a room, then invite your online friends from the room, or share its six-letter code so they can join. Bots fill every empty slot, and the host starts the match.

Both match you with other players, with bots filling empty slots. Ranked matches change your rating and your place on the ladder; quick matches don't.

Check your internet connection and try again. If it keeps happening, write to us with the time it happened.

Yes: tap your name at the top right of the main menu, then Change callsign. Callsigns are 3 to 16 letters, digits or underscores, and each one belongs to one player.
